General Surgery Residency

Baptist Memorial Hospital - Memphis

The Baptist Memorial Medical Education General Surgery Residency program is committed to training highly qualified general surgeons to meet the ever-increasing need for surgical care across the Mid-South region. Baptist leadership has stepped up to meet this critical need for the region and established this training program in an effort to provide vital surgical care to all communities that we serve.

Our program provides comprehensive surgical training across all aspects of surgical patient care in an effort to graduate surgeons who can have successful and rewarding practices in urban, community and rural practice settings. Residents will have clinical experiences in advanced tertiary referral hospitals, large community-based hospitals and small town clinical practice in an effort to foster an interest in comprehensive general surgery.

The program faculty surgeons have extensive experience in resident education, surgical research, hospital leadership and advanced clinical practice. Many faculty surgeons currently or previously have held academic university faculty appointments and have been leaders in surgical education. The core program faculty has well-established clinical practices and are regional or national leaders in their various clinical specialties. Additionally, the program also benefits from a dedicated group of community surgeons who are committed to training future partners and colleagues.

Baptist has shown its commitment to this program by establishing a surgical simulation lab with state-of-the-art high-fidelity equipment and education programs in procedure simulation, laparoscopy, robotics and teams-based training. Additionally, the program is committed to providing the resource support for education programs in surgical quality and high value patient care.

Everyone in the Baptist Surgical Community is excited to see the launch and growth of this training program. We are all committed to training surgeons of the future who we can be proud to say trained at Baptist.
